Little Lady Warrior Soccer

Claire is playing in our school's elementary soccer league
and on Saturday mornings we play our games

The team, which is made up of her classmates, has really improved
during the first weeks of the season.

Instead of running in a little blue clump....they are learning to run to space.
Instead of avoiding the ball, they are learning to go to the ball.
Instead of waiting to see what the other team is going to do, they are learning to
be a little aggressive!

Our coaches are wonderful....
a 5th grade Cypress teacher and a beloved Kindergarten teacher's husband

They sure do make it fun for the girls to learn a new game!
And our Claire Bear....she has really enjoyed it!

One things for sure.....she is fast and she is strong.

I took the camera to last Saturday's game and got some good action shots...we have another game this morning.

They get tired out there!!!

The post I don't have margin to write right now is our family's insane schedule.
Achterkirch's Adventures is not just a catchy title....every day
is truly an adventure.
It is amazing we get through most days.
It is by God's grace that we do!

Tired?  Yes I am.
Rejoicing? Yes I am.

Delighting in all that God gives us to do.
May we do it ALL unto Him

even soccer and ballet and taikwando and laundry and football and homework and birthday parties and work trips and family relationships and class projects and Bible study and small group and volunteering and rehearsals and tests and meal prep and piano and cleaning house and car maintenance and book reports and church events and lawn work and pet care and grocery shopping and ministry

{deep breath}

God,  you have created us for every good work
and granted us gifts beyond measure
and set us in relationships to treasure
and called us to work and play in your kingdom
to make your name great.

We savor your goodness to us.  We are busy, but we are rich because of you!
Today is yours, God, every busy crazy bit of it.
Help us to enjoy you this day and delight in your good gifts to us.
Use us in all our activity at home and away from home for your glory.
Help us to be a joyful, thankful, loving, servant minded family!

...and go Little Lady Warriors!

Warrior Soccer Camp

First week of summer is underway at our house.
Claire and Charlotte are attending Warrior Soccer Camp at school.
This is Claire's first introduction to soccer. . .

and let's just say, judging from the first day -

it is safe to say she likes it. . .a lot!

94 degrees didn't slow her down!

She's home by noon for an afternoon of
swimming, popsicles and reading a good book.
We heart summer!

Lady Warriors

The Lady Warriors are wrapping up the 2011/2012 season this week.  What a great soccer season it was.  Charlotte's first time to play soccer was this fall with the elementary co-curriular league and then she extended the soccer season playing for the middle school team this winter.

If you recall, the Lady Warriors were short players with several of their key players out with injuries in the first weeks of play.  So, they had a 5th grade try out and these five ladies were selected to play on the Lady Warrior's Middle School team. What a privilege!

This is Mimi, one of the 8th grade team captains.  She was so sweet with the incoming 5th graders.  And quickly befriended Charlotte.  They are dear friends and we were so thankful that Mimi made Charlotte feel so welcome on the team and added to her joy this season.  This team, and especially, these eighth graders, have played together for several years.  How amazing that they enfolded the little 5th graders with such grace.  A great example of Christian character!

Here's the team trying to pose with "game faces"....they look tough, huh!?

Here they are with their sweet smiles.  They sure do have fun together...

And they adore their coaches, Mr. and Mrs. Cyr.
What dedication, exellent Christian discipleship and athletic training they brought to our team.

We will cherish the memories!

Charlotte named everyone by their cleats for us....

We're thankful for new skills and new friends!

Well done, Lady Warriors!

Warrior Soccer Victory

The Lady Warriors started the second half of their season off with a victory tonight and Charlotte scored the winning goal!  Her career first!  Way to go Charlotte. . .Way to go Warriors!

The Littlest Warrior

Charlotte is really enjoying her middle school soccer experience!

They are having a great season.
Practicing every day (even when it's a mere 45 degrees).
Traveling to games around the city of Houston.
Bonding as a team.

Coach Cyr is a great coach.  He teaches soccer well, but more than that he mentors the girls in how to be a team!

I can't tell you how blessed I am when I see these 6th, 7th and 8th graders befriending my little 5th grader, loving on her and watching out for her!  And she is by far the littlest Warrior on the field at any game.  Coach tries to keep her on the sides, though she has played some center forward.  Some of those 8th graders are BIG!

I caught the tail end of practice tonight and braved the cold just long enough to capture a few pics!

Here the team is in two squads spelling out silly words at the end of practice.  Lots of giggling!

And praying together. . .

Next game: tomorrow.  Go Lady Warriors!

More Warrior Soccer for Bunka!

We celebrated the end of the elementary soccer season with a family picnic and awards last Friday evening.  It was a special time for the girls to run around together, for the parents to connect one last time and for all of us to thank our wonderful Coach Pogs for his dedication to our girls through the long (and hot) season.

And truth be told, I took a deep breath.  No more after school practices.  No more Saturday treks across the city to games in far away places.  No more uniform laundry and finding soccer socks at the last minute.  Fellow moms. . .you know that feeling at the end of a season.  You are sad to see it end, but you are thrilled it is over! (right!!!?!?!)  I was ready for a little simplicity.

Well, last week I got an email from the middle school coach inviting all 5th grade girls to try outs for the middle school soccer program as they didn't have enough players.  I deleted the email thinking "we don't need to do that!"  I didn't even mention it to Bunka.  Well, yesterday- try out day, Charlotte came downstairs ready for school with her soccer bag.  "Hey mom, I am going to try out for the middle school soccer team.  Can you pick me up at 5:30?"  When, I ask, do these kiddos become so independent???  I smiled.  "Sure dear!"  Secretly, I didn't think she would make the team so I could be positive and encouraging but not stressed out about adding in another activity.

I picked her up at 5:30.  She had had a blast!  And of course, the coaches (a husband-wife team) are amazing!  They were to send an email that evening.  .  .  .

Charlotte was one of five girls selected to particiapte in the middle school program.  Which starts today.  First game is Thursday.  Away.  Forms and physicals due tomorrow.  I'd be lying if in my heart I wasn't saying, "oh mannnnnn".

But then there was that smile - the kind that says, "I DID IT!"   I really, really did it.  She is so proud and ready for the challenge.  And I couldn't be more excited to support her in this new soccer season!

Charlotte is thrilled with the prospect of warm ups with her number on the back.  And a Warrior soccer bag.  And playing with the "big" girls. For her school.  Thats our Charlotte.  She perseveres.  She doesn't hold back.  She joyfully pursues hard things.

GO LADY WARRIORS!!!

GO CHARLOTTE!!!

Lady Warrior Soccer

Charlotte and her fellow Lady Warriors had their first soccer game today!
This is the first season Charlotte has played soccer and she sure seems to enjoy it.

This is her sweet and dedicated coach -

Coach Pog

It was a hot day for a game

and the girls' first time on a full size field

they sure hustled out there

and they gave it their all

We came up a goal short for a win.
But as both teams gathered for prayer at the end of the game,
they were all winners in our eyes!

"...whatever you do, do it for the glory of God!"
1 Corinthians 10:31

Way to go Worriors!!!
