Happy Birthday, Peter!

My boy turned fifteen today.
That's hard to believe!

Charlotte made him this Wordle which I thought was precious. . .

He had a pretty good day.
We had a yummy breakfast with some presents,
he hung out with Meredith most of the morning
and went shooting with Ian and Meredith in the afternoon.
We had BBQ for dinner and he got lots of brother love, too!

It is such a joy to celebrate Peter -
He is truly growing into a godly young man.
Happy Birthday, son!

They will be called oaks of righteousness,
    a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.

One More Time!

Coach Spenn added one more JV game so the Warriors were out on the field again
Thursday evening against Fort Bend Christian

The kids ate dinner in the stands and we enjoyed one last JV match
on a beautiful fall evening.

Pete has decided not to play basketball this year.
He wants to work with a trainer and possibly a one on one quarter back coach

When we asked head coach Spenn for his recommendation,
he said he wanted to do it.
What a blessing.  This man's heart for discipleship coupled with his passion for football.
Well, I was disappointed my boy wasn't going to play BB, but absolutely
DELIGHTED
he can be coached, mentored and discipled by Coach Spenn!

The Warriors played hard, but came up short.

I have sure enjoyed getting to know these boys and these families better this season.
They are great friends.

I have seen the philosophy of this program in action and I am so impressed:

Use football to teach principles and values that will result in the building of courageous men who will live sacrificial lives to the glory of God both on and off the field

Purposefully build deep meaningful relationships that will last a lifetime.

Develop each player to be the best football player he can be.

The Varsity team is 3-1 in District Play
They had a BIG win last night and Peter and most of the JV team
got their turn on the field - very exciting!

As season ticket holders, we will attend a special Coach's dinner this weekend
where we will get to hear Coach Spenn talk about the program, the season and how he has seen God at work in the program!

Go Warriors!
For the Glory of God!

Homecoming Fun Continues

Peter models with other 9th graders wearing their
Freshman class t-shirts designed by a fellow student, Alissa

It reads
{front}
Fish are Friends Not Food. . .

{back}
And jesus said to them,
"Follow me and I will make you fishers of men"

Then today it was dynamic duo day.

Peter and Adam are replacement refs

Tomorrow is the parade and pep rally and of course
the big game....pictures to come!

Last JV Game

Well, Papa....a few last football pics just for you!
The Warriors played their last JV home game Thursday night.
The season has been slim as many teams have downsized their programs and lost
the ability to play a true JV team.

It was a beautiful evening for a football game.
And special friends from church came out to cheer on Pete!
Like Claire's friend Naomi

and Meredith and Peter's friend Sarah

Pastor Dennis and Connor, too!

I really enjoy watching my boy play the game he loves.
I enjoy watching the team encourage and even serve one another.
I enjoy sitting in the stands with our Cypress family.
I enjoy seeing the coaches pour into our boys as they grow into men.

I enjoy seeing the team work hard, play hard, and seek hard after God together.

It has been a great season.  For a lot of reasons.

And really, it is not quite over.....Peter will suit up for the remaining district Varsity games.
We usually make it quite far into tournament play....semi-finals last year.
So there is still plenty of Warrior football left.

Of course, it is homecoming next weekend.  That will be a super fun game.
Stay tuned for photos of the week's festivities and yes, the homecoming mum.
For our northern friends, you'll want to read back to last years post here on all that nonsense
{I mean fun}
Meredith is going with her friend Brad.
Peter, on the other hand, refuses to go as a freshman.

{His plan is to wait until he is a junior and ask Sarah, the adorable girl pictured above....but don't tell him I told you that!}

CCS Football Meets HRB

Meredith invited her senior varsity football friends (and her brother)  to come to her
Pas de Deux class tonight as they are very short on male dancers to partner with.

(Actually, she bribed them with homemade brownies at lunch last week)

Surprisingly, they accepted the challenge and showed up after football practice!

Everyone, including Ballet Mistress Barbara thought it was great fun!

Look at the concentration as Miss Barbara gives instructions.

Peter sure looks confident out there!

A little sideline coaching for the defensive line players!

They certainly recognized quickly how hard it is.

Peter marvels at Dan's perfect shoulder sit!
He's the man!

It was, according to all involved, ridiculously fun.

Miss Barbara invited them all back....
and she got verbal commitments from all of them!

Meredith is going to have to make more brownies I think!

Austin Road Trip

The Warrior football team traveled to Austin, Texas
this weekend for a dual match against Regents Christian School.
Varsity played on Friday night.
JV played Saturday at noon.
Ian took Meredith and Charlotte - I hung back with the littles.

Wish I could have seen Peter play, though.
He did a great job.
And the team did a great job.
They won 38 to 13.

Varsity Coach Spenn got to see the JV team in action
and coached Peter throughout the game!
The seniors served as water boys for the game....this is Meredith's friend Paul
sneaking into the sibling shot.

Coach Spenn had some nice things to say to the team
and to Peter....he got one of the game balls today!

As the JV team was getting ready for the game,
the two varsity teams shared a breakfast and prayer time together.
It is an annual tradition for these two teams whose coaches are good friends!

Road trippin' for Friday night lights.
Yep.  We're Texans now!
I heart Texas!
Really I do.

First High School Game

It was an exciting Thursday evening.
Peter played his first high school football game -
the JV team took the field against The John Cooper School
on their 25th anniversary night.

We played against their older JV team
which was a real run for our money....
they wanted a victory on their celebratory night
and well, we fought hard and surely got the feel of a faster, harder game
than we played last year on the middle school team!

Go get 'em Pete!

On the move...good blocking #60!
Keep that green shirt away from my boy!

I didn't get any pics, but coach put Peter in on defense, too,
which Peter loved....he misses "hitting guys".
He took a few down, too!

Peter did score a touch down.  The only score on the board.  That was exciting!
But the other team scored 32.
Coach Nugent commended the boys on fighting hard to the end.
And keeping their heads up!

Nothing like "touching two" and praying together as a team!

WARRIORS!!!

Pete and James...hot, stinky and tired!

Proud dad and his boy....

A football milestone of sorts.
Looking forward to the JV season and seeing the team come together.
Gotta wash the uniform...Varsity game tomorrow night!
