Dog Days of Summer

Hip Hip Hooray for three day weekends!

Oh the Dog days of summer.....

dog days

noun
1.
the sultry part of the summer, supposed to occur during theperiod that Sirius, the Dog Star, rises at the same time asthe sun: now often reckoned from July 3 to August 11.
2.
a period marked by lethargy, inactivity, or indolence.

We enjoyed our extra day of being together.
And with our air conditioning being fixed after two days of no air upstairs,
we're all happy campers!
It was a hot one....but we took to the pool and that made for a lot of fun
and some relief from the hot, hot and humid Houston weather!

We even hooked up the slip and slide one last time!

Even Zoe can't help herself...she loves to swim!

Peter got home from football practice and cooled off, too!

You should have heard the squeels!!!

Back to school for everyone tomorrow.
And back to work...my first day "in the office".

Ian is grilling hamburgers and hot dogs and we're fixin'
to enjoy a true summer feast tonight.

We love summer together days.
but we're looking forward to fall, too.
And cooler temperatures!

Happy Labor Day, y'all!

Good Bye St. Luke's

Meredith's last day in the Junior Volunteer Program
on the NICUat St. Luke's Hospital
was Friday.

She was sad to say good bye to the nurses who poured into her all summer long.
She brought this pretty cake from our favorite bakery
to say Thank You!

She learned so much.
And got to see so much that was brand new to her
{like the birth of babies}

Her experience on the NICU was
inspiring
challenging
&
educational

She has concluded that this exposure has confirmed her interest in
becoming a NICU nurse.  And she knows she wants to study to become a NICU nurse
at Baylor University.

That application, among others, was completed and submitted
earlier this week.

{sigh}

St. Luke's invited her to come in for a shift here and there as her schedule permits
over breaks and holidays and she would consider applying
for the program again next summer.

It was awesome!!!

Family Photos

With a new school year right around the corner, I couldn't resist getting everybody's picture
with the beautiful backdrop of the Savannah marsh in the evening sunlight.

Don't we just look relaxed and ready for the new year!?

Summer in Savannah

We are home from our time in Savannah.
Despite a trip to the ER and finding out Claire had pneumonia,
we had a lovely time!

It's been a long time since we'd seen Amma and Tatta
and four years since we'd been to Savannah.

We enjoyed the beauty of the marsh and all the wildlife it is home to.
We saw deer, an osprey, an owl, hawks, a dolphin, and much more.

We saw incredible high tides, too. It is a fascinating ecosystem!

We did a lot of this. . .

and this from my parents' deck

and Tata fired up his new grill for us, too!

We had a morning walk to the marina

We strolled the island garden project and admired all the lovely plots

We worked a puzzle

We tried our hand at fishing in a nearby lagoon.  .  .
The only thing we caught was a turtle!

It was still fun!

We enjoyed the historic beauty of Savannah

and Tata took us on a walking tour of the many squares.

We took the recommendation of a friend that had attended SCAD
and went to Vinnie Van Go Gos for pizza.

It was amazing!

We strolled the Market Street before heading to get some dessert

Here we are at Lovin' Spoons
loving the yogurt and the old VW Bug!

On our last day, we returned to the pool for a fun and relaxing afternoon

and went to our favorite place for seafood
Pearl's Saltwater Grille

Love the Pearl's Pound of shrimp!

Here are Mimi and Peter with their sweet tea!

We had a great time being together and enjoying our last wee bit of summer!
The marsh was such a great backdrop for photos, so I made everyone sit for pictures.
I will post those separately once I get them edited!
