Warrior Homecoming 2012 was a pretty fun night.
Our school is like a big family and nights like this
when everyone comes out for a football game
well, it is reason to celebrate
The Warriors have worked hard, sustained some serious losses due to injury
and yet, they continue to pull together, persevere and tonight
they enjoyed a sweet victory over the Beaumont Legacy Warriors
An email from Coach Spenn this week was a reminder of the unique Christ-centered approach this man has to coaching a team of young men. It is remarkable.
Ian and I worked the gate tonight, so we missed most of the game,
but it was fun in that we got to talk to everybody that came!
Final score was 26 to 6
Now, following are a few photos of Meredith with her friends at the game.
For all our Northern family and friends, these photos need some explaining.
It is a tradition {in Texas} for boys and girls to exchange mums and garters for homecoming.
We've experienced lots of "firsts" in Texas and well,
this particular one is by far the most odd.
Last year we witnessed the whole ordeal, but did not participate as
Meredith was invited to the dance after the homecoming game
{that was kind of a relief}
But this year her friend Brad invited her and so we got to participate in this southern tradition.
We ordered Brad's garter from one of my friends who loves to make them for the kids.
Meredith did have a fun time planning Brad's garter with Mrs. Nealy.
His garter is full of fun trinkets that describe him.
Meredith's mum was made by Brad's mother and indeed it is a beauty.
Seniors have all white mums and garters- all others are school colors
Here is Mimi's friend Sarah who is new to Cypress this year.
They have become fast friends - she is darling and we're so thankful for her!
It was a chilly night for a game, so the littles snuggled to keep warm
and Charlotte ran around with all her sweet friends like Rebecca who is also a church friend.
What a blessing!
What a blessing!
For those of you curious about the crazy Texas mums, here are some close ups - Enjoy!
I am so about blooming where you are planted.
Y'all will remember when we moved from Minnesota and I left my beautiful English gardens,
and took up cactus gardening in Phoenix. I got an A for effort!
Maybe one day, I will take up mum making.....maybe.
{okay I doubt it}
It is definitely an art
Homecoming Texas style...it's a hoot!
